Making Andy Proud...

Jordyn flounced into the living room the other night and said, "Do you know why I love Jim Croce so much?" I said no and she said, "Because he sings such beautiful songs!"

I'm so happy that I'm influencing a 5 year old with Croce! She saw a video of his tonight on VH1 Classic and ran to get me...she knows his songs and she recognizes him! It rocks!!

Now if I can just get her hooked on Badfinger!

|

We Must All Have Waffle Fries FORTHWITH!

We went to Chick-Fil-A last night for dinner - I got the nuggets & waffle fries - and damn, they were good! Jordyn also had nuggets & fries but she didn't finish hers. She left one nugget of chickeny goodness and a handful of fries sitting on her plate and went running into her room to play. Collin kept hollering at her to finish her dinner and she finally said she didn't want to. Collin told her to ask Justin if he wanted to eat the rest & if he said no, she would have to eat it.

Now I figured Jordyn was off the hook cuz Justin had been trying earlier to take her chicken but I still said, "If he doesn't want to, I'll finish it." Surprise, surprise - Justin said no! So Collin told his daughter that "Maybe you can beg Heather to finish your dinner for you." I let her lay there for a couple minutes saying, "Come on, Heather...come on!!" I finally acted as if I were doing her a favor by eating that last delicious morsel of chicken & waffle fries and told her, "You owe me."

She placed the plate on my lap and said, "Yeah, I owe you some chicken." I replied, "No, you just owe me." About 15 minutes later, she comes out to the living room and drops a dollar bill and a handful of change on my lap. "Here. I owe you a dollar & some change." I gave it back. It was way too cute, though!!

And now a quiz I stole from El Sid. I wasn't going to but the quiz commanded me!

A - Age you lost your virginity?
So not saying cuz family members read this!!

B - Band listening to right now? No one - Collin's sleeping, mustn't wake him but I have No Doubt going through my head.

C - Dream car? 1967 Mustang.

D - Dad's name? Jess.

E - Easiest person to make me laugh? Collin, followed closely by Derek.

F - Food you miss most? Carnation Breakfast Bars & the astronaut chewy sticks.

G - Any encounters with ghosts? Hell, yeah. In fact Wednesday morning at work I was listening to my CD player (thanks, Derek!!) and "What Happens Tomorrow" by Duran Duran was playing. I was thinking I should back it up and listen to it again but because I was busy, I didn't follow through. So the song ends and STARTS AGAIN! I pulled the player from my smock pocket to see it set on "Repeat 1 mode." I didn't put it on there...The D2 song was #3 on the playlist so...at least my ghost is helpful.

H - Person most hated at the moment? The engineer who threw something at my heron. Luckilly, the bird is back & he brought a friend with him! I'm hoping to get pics next week!

I - Interesting unknown fact about yourself? I can sing "My Heart Will Go On" in Italian.

J - The first letter of the last person who broke your heart? "C". Why is this question under "j"?

L - Last time you did LSD? Never. Ever. Drugs are bad!!

M - Most memorable moment you can think of in a minute? The first time Collin told me he loved me!! Aww...I guess I should have prefaced that with a Mush Warning, huh? Sorry.

N - Nicknames? Foot, Heado...

O - What's the most valued possession? Collin. Then probably my music & books.

P - Poison of choice? Diet Pepsi. Or Amaretto. Or Amaretto Pepsi...Mmmmm....

Q - The last quote you heard: "TGIF." Is that a quote? Oh, well....

R - What are you allergic to? Nothing that I know of.

S - Song you sang last? "Too Late" by No Doubt.

T - Time you woke up? This morning? 4:44 am. Pretty cool, huh? Yesterday - 4:46pm.

U - Fav. pair of underwear? They're peach.

V - Vegetable you hate most? MUSHROOMS!!

W - What are you the most afraid of? enclosed spaces, clowns, bees, wasps, spiders, dead bugs.

X - X-rated love life? I agree with El Sid - if you're having sex, isn't it X rated?

Y - Year you were born? 1971

Z - Zodiac sign? Aquarius The Water Bearer.

Lost - My Creativity

A few years ago I ran across a bunch of pictures that Derek had drawn when he was in junior high. I showed them to him, expecting hearty laughs at his creativity then. Instead he got depressed, saying he wasn't that creative anymore. I thought he was wrong then and I still think he's wrong... but I know how he feels.

When I was at the radio station, I worked for a while with my best friend Troy. He would come in at midnight and take over from me. I would always leave something in his mail box for him to discover later and laugh at. One night I copied a picture of Vixen, a female hair metal band, taped a balloon over the head of Shari, his favorite member, and wrote, "Can Troy come out to play?" He kept that on his mirror for years.

One night we noticed there were some killer dust bunnies on the speakers that hung from the ceiling of the studio. We cleaned them off before I went home. The next night he came in to find a threatening letter in his mailbox from Master Bunn, leader of The Dust Bunny Gang, threatening Troy with bodily harm for disposing of members of his gang. He loved that - Master Bunn ended up being an inside joke with us.

Now I can't remember if it was the Oklahoma City bombing or the first attempt on the World Trade Center but I know it was a bombing that had happened and numerous groups were taking responsibility for it. We were told to keep an eye on the AP wire for stories about it. What I did was I took an AP story and made my own, typing painstakingly to make it resemble an actual story. It started off quite professional, describing the bombing and stating that yet another group had claimed responsibility. At the end, though, I put that Master Bunn & his Dust Bunny Gang were the culprits. What was great was that I had done such a good job of faking the AP story that he almost went on air with it!! Thank goodness he read through it before he did.

But my point is that I haven't done anything like that in years. I've lost my creativity to do goofy things. Maybe it's my straight-laced work environment, I don't know. Maybe one day I'll find it again. Is there a Lost & Found department for these types of things??

Why, I Oughta...

I've been going on about the Great Blue Heron that hangs out at Quail Lake across from work for a couple weeks now. It's gotten to be a habit to look for him every morning and usually he doesn't disappoint. Until yesterday.

To make my point, I have to go back to last Wednesday morning. Prescilla & I were doing our usual 5:30am walk and we saw our bird hanging around on the north end of the lake wading through the water. As we made our way onto the south side, we watched him fly gracefully to the east side and settle on top of a large cement buttress on the edge of the lake. He looked so kingly standing there, straight as a pin, his reflection glowing beneath him in the dawn. We couldn't get over how amazingly cool he looked.

As we got closer, Prescilla pointed out that Dick B., one of the senior engineers, was coming our way. We had been seeing him for the past few months, coming into work early to walk around the lake and we wondered if he was doing it for fun or for his health. Personally, I don't care. I don't like him much - I had one run-in with him when I first started here 8 years ago and I thought he was a jerk. I haven't yet changed my opinion of him and after this, I don't think I ever will.

He was walking along the sidewalk towards us when suddenly, just as he passed the heron, HE THREW SOMETHING AT HIM!! AT MY BIRD! Of course, the heron flew away, heading towards the lake in front of The Sheraton Hotel. Prescilla & I were outraged! We couldn't believe it! I hollered, "That... that.... DICK!" What an appropriate name that man has! Why would you throw something at such an awesome creature when it hasn't done anything to you??? I was so mad... he couldn't hear our outburst, however, because he was wearing headphones but when we walked by him, I gave him a good rasberrying!!

I also cursed him, hoping he had the worst day ever.

Now yesterday morning when we went walking, the heron was nowhere to be seen. If Dick chased it away, I'm going to be very upset! I haven't even gotten a picture of him yet! Collin suggested I find a heron mask and the next time I see ol' Dick I give him a "run-by thwacking" while wearing the mask.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the heron just over-slept yesterday & I'll see him in a few hours... but if not, that Dick better watch out!

Finally Friday!

Here it is, the long awaited Photo Blog of our anniversary trip!! Enjoy!

This is the road sign pointing the way to the ghost town of Caribou. This is as close as I got to Caribou Ranch.

Here's The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. This was actually three seperate pictures that Collin spliced together. This is a gorgeous hotel! Click to make bigger.

Here's a couple signs on the outside of the hotel.

This is the fireplace in the lobby of The Stanley.

Piano and the entrance to the Billiard Room.

I love this picture. Doesn't it look like a ghost floating down the stairs?? Maybe it really is a ghost and not just the reflection of the light from the window!

This is the entrance to The Cascades restuarant that Collin & I had lunch in.

The bar. Yeah, it's not the same as the movie but I'll admit that I was having Simpsons moments the entire time; "Can't murder now. Eating."

Here's the St. Malo Center between Nederland & Estes Park. This is the first view...

And from the front...I love how the sun is hitting the stained glass. There was a wedding rehersal going on so we couldn't go inside... Click to make bigger.

And my favorite shot from the day - my Collin posing in front of Becker Resevoir.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wonderful Wednesday

Ahhh! It's my weekend once again. I love these weeks where I only work 2 days! I've decided to try something new... a wildlife counter. Since I'm always seeing different animals around work on my walks, I thought I'd keep track. Tonight I didn't see any (although I'm expecting to see the heron on the 5:30am walk.) so I thought I'd start with what I saw yesterday:

1 baby raccoon
1 baby squirrel
1 black cat
1 great blue heron
6 partridges
10 ducks (1 mama & approx. 9 babies)

The baby raccoon scared me AGAIN!! Last week he & his brothers showed up on that fence after I was talking about Pennywise, remember? Well this time, the little bugger popped his head out of the gutter drain in the sidewalk like he was imitating Pennywise! That little raccoon is lucky he's so cute...

The baby squirrel was begging me for peanuts... all I had on me was some Harvest Cheddar SunChips but the picky thing refused that and went scrounging for peanuts instead.

_______________

Dad had his artery-clearing surgery yesterday and appears to be doing well... hopefully he'll be out of the hospital today!

_______________

We had one hell of a storm here yesterday afternoon - flash floods, so much hail it looked like it snowed. I live on a hill and there was so much water & hail mixed together flowing down to the street that it looked like a giant shower drain! The apartment people attached big black hoses to the gutter drains to get the water to the grass, right? Well the hail was piling up so fast that it blocked the hose in front of my deck... I was sitting there watching it... suddenly the hose popped and there were about 5 jets of water fountaining up from the pressure inside! It was crazy! The lightning was so close that when it flashed it was bright pink. And it's only June... I hope that doesn't mean we're in for a flood-filled summer. Last year's three floods were enough!!

__________________

My friend Shanon was picked to serve on a jury yesterday. She's not thrilled... but at least the case looks to be interesting: attempted murder! When I was on jury duty a few years back, it was for perjury. Talk about BOOORRRING!! I hope Shanon has more fun than I did... maybe she'll be picked to be jury foreperson! Oooo!!

_________

That's all the fun I have for you today, boys & girls. Hope you all have a great Wednesday!!!

Weekend Review

This past weekend was a lot of fun. It was my year anniversary with Collin and we decided to do something different. I even got pictures but since I'm at work until Wednesday morning, you'll have to wait for those. But trust me, they'll be worth the wait!

Until then, here are the details:

Friday morning we headed out to Nederland which is a few miles outside of Boulder. There's supposed to be a recording studio there called Caribou Ranch where acts like John Lennon, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and BADFINGER recorded. If you're a regular reader, you now know why I wanted to go there. I wanted to be in the same place that Pete Ham was... I wanted to stand in front of the studio with my Wish You Were Here album (the one recorded at Caribou Ranch) and smile like a loon.

We got up to Nederland after a scenic tour through Boulder, a town I hadn't been to since I was very small and my Uncle Ray was going to college there. It's a very pretty town and one that I was excited to see... I've read all of Stephen White's books & they're set in Boulder so it was nice to see what he's been writing about first hand after all these books! When we passed the Justice Center, I actually got all excited and pointed it out to Collin: "There's where Lauren works!!" Lauren is the hero's wife. I'm pathetic and I read too much, I know!!

So! We had our MapQuest directions all printed out on how to get to Caribou. It said we would have to go on some partially unpaved roads. Guess what? They were ALL unpaved once we got off the main road. And we were in the middle of nowhere. All we could think of was the movie Wrong Turn!! And then, of course, rolling through my brain was "You got purty lips, boy." Thank God we found the main highway again. We circled back to town and stopped at the Town Hall to ask directions. When the lady heard what we were looking for, she said, "Oh! That burned down in '85." Uh! You could practically hear my hopes shattering on the floor. Why hadn't I heard about that??

She thought that the studio might have been rebuilt and was on public land. She told us how to get there and it turned out it was easy to find - it was just on open spaces land that was CLOSED until June 30th! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! All my hopes, dashed!

So we decided to go up to Estes Park.

I've lived in Colorado all my life and had never been in that part of the state. There's some gorgeous scenery & a beautiful church called the St. Malo Center which we got some pictures of - you'll get to see them hopefully Thursday! Estes Park was pretty. I liked it a lot. We ended up driving around until we found The Stanley Hotel, the place used for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's The Shining. It was sooooo cool. Collin got lots of swell shots of it. We were in the gift shop and missed out on the tour that was just starting so we contented ourselves with wandering the first floor (the upstairs was for guests only.) and we decided to have lunch at The Cascades, a very posh restaurant in the hotel. I had a bison burger. It was delish!

The ride home was nice - we stopped at Becker Reservoir and got some nice scenery shots and we also pulled over and got some pretty cool raging river pictures. Am I building the pics up enough that by Thursday you'll be waiting in breathless anticipation?? I hope so!!

All in all - a great day! Capped off by Derek's amazing comeback win at softball!!

Bird Watching

So Wednesday morning I was out doing what I always do - taking a quick jaunt around Quail Lake with Prescilla. It was about 5:30am, the sun was up, the birds were singing, it was promising to be a lovely day. One thing we always see and always look forward to seeing is the Great Blue Heron that hangs out at the lake. He's gorgeous...until I get my own picture of him, this guy will have to suffice:
The image ?http://ccwild.cbi.tamucc.edu/webcams/photogallery/Great%20Blue%20Heron%201.jpg? cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

And this guy doesn't do MY bird justice. MY heron is regal and cool. His wingspan is amazing, the steel blue of his feathers are gorgeous! So!

We're walking around the east side of the lake on the sidewalk...there's about an inch drop off on my side to the gravel path that winds around Quail Lake. We're walking along and a seagull flies in, doing a belly flop on the lake before settling down and swimming about. I'm watching him and suddenly Prescilla smacks my arm and says, "Here he comes! Look! Look, here comes our bird!!" Sure enough, the heron was gliding in. I couldn't take my eyes off him as he swooped down and landed on a rock at the edge of the lake near where the seagull was. The seagull started flirting with the heron, swimming back & forth in front of him, bobbing her head like, "Ooo, check me out, you big hunk o' bird." I'm so into this display that my foot landed on the very edge of the sidewalk, causing me to lose my balance.

BAM! Down I went! Pretty hard but luckily I only minorly scraped my knee and jolted my elbows. All for this heron...I need to watch where I'm going rather than watch the birds!

But I have decided that I want a pet heron. Is that possible?

A Revelation Of Sorts

So a couple weeks ago I posted that "Revenge Of The Sis" post with the funny pictures of Derek, right? And then I promptly felt bad... guilty... on the wrong side of the law... (that last one was because I couldn't think of another synonym for guilty so I looked it up in the computer's thesaurus. That's what it gave me. Go figure!) and I came to a realization:

I'd never make it on The Dark Side. I have so much guilt inside of me, you'd think I was Catholic. Darth Vader would just shake his helmet at me and walk away. I know it! The first time I had to fight someone with my light saber would be a disaster. I can see it now: "I'm really sorry I cut off your hand! I didn't MEAN to..."

We All Float Down Here

A while back, Redneck Diva posted 100 things about herself. One of those things was a fear of walking over grated gutters because of the movie/book "It." I, too, have that fear because of that book/movie.

So last night, Prescilla & I went on our midnight walk around the neighborhood. Towards the end, we passed a gutter with rushing water and it made me think of Redneck Diva's story. I began sharing it with Prescilla and come to find out, she had never seen the movie nor read the book. I started to fill her in on the basic plot & mentioned the little boy who disappears in the beginning after seeing Pennywise in the gutter.

As I'm telling her this, we passed a house with a tall wooden fence. We could hear scratching & scrabbling coming from behind the fence and Prescilla said, "Something's there!" All I could see was something black holding onto the top of the fence. I thought it was the gloved hand of someone climbing over!

In situations like this, my mind starts flinging thoughts about willy-nilly. Of course my first thought was "Pennywise!" Then I thought it was a burglar, climbing over the fence. He would kill us for seeing him, surely! But Prescilla, always thinking, trained her flashlight on the fence. Lo & behold, there were 6 pairs of eyes staring back at us.

On top of the fence were three baby raccoons. When the light hit them, they all hunkered down and stared at us. Suddenly, a fourth popped up from behind his brothers to see why they stopped. He saw us and cocked his head before ducking down again. They were so cute!!!! And much more relieving than anything I had thought could have been causing the noise!

We stared at each other for a couple minutes before we went on our way. Prescilla admitted that her skin was crawling when we first heard the scratching because of my Pennywise story! I'm just glad the momma raccoon wasn't there to get mad at us!

That's when I need a digital camera so I can capture these moments and then everyone could have seen these little guys!

A Funked Up Thursday...

Last Thursday was just a poopy day, it really was. There were a few highlights like spending the day with Jordyn, seeing Robots for the 2nd time with Jordyn, Shanon & Elena and shopping with Mom & Jordyn but there was something everywhere I went that day that just aggravated the peewaddins outta me! I'll start at the beginning of the day & work my way through it, purging it from my soul!

-Incident #1: Shanon & I are accosted by some high goofbally woman who mistakes us for Dollar Theatre ambassadors while we're waiting for the doors to open so we can see Robots. She's very upset that there are no horror movies playing and only comedies. She must have missed the article in the newspaper that reported that the new dollar theatre was a "family oriented operation."

-Incident #2: 1/4 of my back tooth breaks off while eating popcorn during the movie.

-Incident #3: Go to my parents house to get my Mom so she can go shopping and find out that Dad is going blind due to his diabetes & that later this month he's having surgery on his leg so that he won't lose it later on down the road. GAAH!

-Incident #4: Go to Target and find the new Def Leppard CD, "Rock Of Ages - The Definitive Collection" which includes a cover of Badfinger's "No Matter What." Being a HUGE Badfinger & Def Leppard fan, this is sure to be sheer bliss for me. Get home and discover that the flighty checker DID NOT include the CD in my bag but she did remember to charge me for it. I have to go all the way back to get it.

-Incident #5: Before leaving for Target, I call Fargos & order 2 large pizzas to be ready at 5pm. Jordyn & I get there at 4:50pm and they haven't even put the pizzas in the oven yet! The hostess smiles and says, "They'll be ready by 5." I wanted to yell, "LIAR!! I worked here for 10 years - I know how long it takes to cook 2 large pizzas and it's not 10 minutes!"

-Incident #6: Go to The Movie Trading Company, my new favorite store. They sell used movies and music very cheap. I bought 12 CD's, including Queensryche's Greatest Hits. I'm very excited about this because my soon-to-be ex stole my "Operation Mindcrime" & "Empire" CD's so at least with the Greatest Hits CD, I'll have most of what I liked on those two (with the exception of "Another Rainy Night" but I'm babbling now). So! I open up the CD as we're 2 minutes from home and guess what's inside? Not Queensryche... Metallica's "Load." *sigh* This store is the next to last store in the city - not joking... it's them then Wal-Mart and then I-25 to take you to Denver. Needless to say, I was not happy about having to go all the way back up there the next day to exchange it, but I did.

See? It was just not a great day. But I survived and the rest of the week seems to be (knock on wood & point like Fred) shaping up quite nicely!

It's Friday!!

That means that since Derek is out of town, I'll be doing the Friday Fotos! Enjoy!

Here we have Derek in his early teens...maybe 12...but notice the face he's making...

...and then see here? Like 16 years later, it's the same face!!

On the right is my Mom and next to her is my Aunt MaryBeth. This was taken by my cousin Mandy (MB's daughter) on Grand Mesa during one of our family reunions. I think this a geat picture of them both.

My Dad in 1978. He was all dressed up to be the best man at some wedding. Doesn't he look dapper? And look at all that hair!!

We're back into the Famous Men I've Seen photos...this is Bret "Hitman" Hart. God, I loved him! I thought he was so hot!! Professional wrestler, by the way, for those of you who don't know who he is. The guy in the ring waiting to wrestle Bret Hart is Curt Hennig. He died a while back. This was at one of the many wrestling matches Derek & I begged Mom to take us to.

Eeee! This is ME and Joey Molland from Badfinger, my favorite group of ALL TIME!! I saw Badfinger play at the Air Force Academy in 2000...they opened for Kansas & Foreigner...it was an outdoor show and by the time Badfinger was done playing, I was sunburned BAD! You can kinda see it in this picture. My hair was brown then...I had died it atomic pink (which I'll post that picture soon!) then decided I wasn't ready for all the staring that came with having pink hair. Last year I was ready!

That's about all...I added a couple new links on my sidebar to check out - there was one I was getting ready to link to and then she started talking smack about Gwen Stefani & Hollaback Girl so I changed my mind! Ha!! That'll teach her! :-D Have a great weekend everyone!

It Only Hurts When It Rains... Or Snows... Or...

When I was 16 & I broke my thumb, the doctor told me that I would have arthritis in it. He was right... now my thumb has become a predictor of the weather. Along with my knees and, most recently, my left ankle. And because of my knees and my ankle, I can tell you that at some point today, my little weather pixie on my sidebar will be holding an umbrella!

I always feel like a little old woman, saying, "My knees hurt... it must be going to rain (or snow, depending on the season.)." When I was working at Fargo's, there was a whole week where my thumb & my knees hurt so bad I was in tears at the end of the day. A whole week of this excruciating pain... and guess what happened at the end of the week? We had one of the biggest blizzards we had had in years! As soon as it started snowing, the pain went away!

It's amazing how your body can tell when a pressure change is occurring. I just wish it would do it with less pain!

Tag, You're It!

Once again, I've been tagged for a fun, exciting quiz! This time by FoxyMama!! Thanks! You all know how much I love things like this! :-D

The rules are to pick five and tell the world what you would do if that was you then add a category at the end of your own choosing to pass along to the unsuspecting people you tag! Here we go....

If I could be a scientist?

If I could be a farmer?

If I could be a musician?
I would love to be a musician! I would write songs that made the whole world sing! Haha! No, seriously, I would want to be the next Gwen Stefani - taking the world by storm and not only writing some great songs but doing movies and fashion, too!!

If I could be a doctor?

If I could be a painter?

If I could be a gardener?

If I could be a missionary?

If I could be a chef?
I would have my own TV show on The Food Network where my genius father would be my side-kick and we'd have celebrity chefs like Molto Mario and Rachel Ray. Then Dad & I would have our own line of cookware and a bunch of cookbooks!!

If I could be an architect?

If I could be a linguist?

If I could be a psychologist?

If I could be a librarian?
I would spend my days in heavenly bliss, surrounded by books upon books and I would read them all!!

If I could be an athlete?
I would be a football player. Seriously. I love football, I love playing football. I wrote a story once in high school where I played wide receiver for the Broncos... the first female in the NFL. That would be awesome!

If I could be a lawyer?

If I could be an inn-keeper?

If I could be a professor?

If I could be a writer?
My dream job - well, one of them, anyway. I would write scary books but with a twist of romance and destinies fulfilled and past lives and the like!

If I could be a llama-rider?

If I could be a bonny pirate?

If I could be an astronaut

If I could be a world famous blogger?

If I could be a justice on any one court in the world?

If I could be married to any current famous political figure?

If I could be a show dog owner?

If I could be a fictional character?
I'm doing this one as an extry cuz I want to be GIR!! HEEHEE!

If I could be a species other than human?

If I could be a funeral director?

If I could be an archaeologist?

So there you have it. The last one on the list is mine... it's what I truly would love to be! And I believe I shall tag Collin and Derek! Have fun, boys!!

Monkey Business

Happy Friday! A couple posts back, I did a quiz where I had to answer questions with song titles from one band. I picked Skid Row, one of my favorite bands. Then I remembered that I had yet to post my pics from my encounter with the band so here they are for your Friday enjoyment! In case you haven't read my original post on how I met Skid Row (or just don't feel like following the link), this took place in August of 2002 at the Colorado State Fair. They were part of The Rock Never Stops Tour with Jackyl, Vince Neil & Tesla.

Here we have yours truly with one half of Skid Row's guuitar tandem, Scotti Hill. He was incredibly nice...talked to Christina & I for a long time about his website and his plans for it & the band. That's their tour bus that we're standing in front of. The security guard decided that Christina & I posed no threat and let us just waltz right up to their bus. The boys didn't seem to mind! Oh, yeah, check out my Josie & The Pussycat ears!! I love those things! When I met the lead singer, Johnny Solinger (whom I sadly didn't get a picture with), he was impressed by my ears. Said he loved it when the girls got "dressed up" for shows!

Me & Phil Varone, the now ex-drummer. He was their thrid basher, originally with the band Saigon Kick when hair metal was at it's height back in the day. He left a while back because he was told by a doctor that he would most definitely die if he stayed on tour with them - too much alcohol! It's a shame, I really like Phil! Isn't he cool, though? Those tattoos, the glasses...he was really nice, too! Just yanked me right in next to him for the picture!

Rachel Bolan, the bassist. I adore him!! He was amazing when we met him - he's Christina's favorite and she had made a scrapbook of him that she brought to show him. He took the time to look through the whole book and comment on each picture that she had pasted in there. He pointed out the very first pic of him to ever be in a magazine & when he came across a picture of him in a fuzzy, Russian-looking hat, exclaimed, "I lost that fucking hat! Can you believe that? I think someone stole it - I loved that hat!"

And my favorite...me and Dave "Snake" Sabo, the other guitarist. He was so cool that night! His birthday was coming up so I got him a card (that's the green envelope he's holding). After the show, when we were standing in line for the meet & greet, he caught sight of me and waved and smiled, causing everyone to look at me with curiousity - it was awesome!! Then he signed the stuffed snake I had won that afternoon playing a dart game (he wrote "Fuckin' Right! Snake 2002" across the snake's neck!), signed my 8x10 photo of the band ("Heather, thanks for the birthday card! Snake." He remembered my name! He wrote it out without asking for it! Very impressive!!) and gave me a kiss!!

So there you have my Skid Row adventure! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend I hope I'm forgiven for yesterday's post!

Revenge Of The Sis

So...all those photo posts that Derek has done with the horrible pictures of me, Collin, Mom, Dad, Squatchy...he seems to revel in putting those bad pics up for the world to see. Well, here's my revenge. We were going through photos at Mom's the other night and I found 5 different pictures of Derek between the ages of 11 & 13 where he took shots of himself. I think they're hilarious and the perfect thing to get him back with!! Enjoy!

On the back of this one, he actually wrote "Moi By Moi." Ha!

Yeah! Oh, I also was tagged by Restless Angel so her quizzes are below!

Here's A Tip

I know I promised you a great post today but it's going to have to be put off until tomorrow. I'm sorry... it's a photo blog and for that I have to be at Collin's not stuck here at work. So, in it's place, I present to you an angst-filled rant against waitresses. Enjoy!

Prescilla & I were taking our customary midnight walk on our break last night and somehow we got on the subject of bad waitresses. We've all had our share of them... I'll fill you in on a couple of mine.

The first happened about 8 years ago at The Polo Club inside the Embassy Suites Hotel. I was there for karaoke with my then-husband and my friend Troy. The waitress we had (I wish wish WISH that I could remember her name so I could tell everybody who she was!) had always been bad - always snotty with us, ignoring us when our glasses or beer bottles were empty. One particular night she took my order for another soda and we never saw her again. Troy ended up going to the bar & paying for my soda there. But when She brought the bill, there was the second soda! When I told her that I never got that soda, she tried to argue with me. I had had enough and told her she was, by far, the worst waitress I had ever had. She looked me straight in the eye and said, "I spend my time on people who are worth my time." Everyone at the table gasped, watching me for my reaction. I merely asked for the manager who seemed aghast at what she had said and we ended up getting our tab comped. She was there the next week we went and she was very subdued. After that we never saw her again.

The second instance I will tell you about was 10 years ago in Denver. I had gone to see the play Grease with Troy and my then-husband and afterwards we went to Denny's. The hostess sat us and then promptly forgot about us. We watched as people came in after us, got waited on and served. Finally Troy just got up and went into the little waitressing area where they were all gathered and said, "We're ready to order." They told him he couldn't be back there and he fired back with, "We have been sitting here for 20 minutes while people who have come in AFTER us have been waited on. I'm not leaving this area without one of you to take our order!" Go Troy! The waitress that followed him back to our table was surly and seemed annoyed that she actually had to wait on us. She got no tip.

The last one... well... this is about Mom. She & I went to Village Inn one afternoon for lunch. The place was fairly busy and the host that sat us pointed out our waitress and said she'd be right with us. We waited and waited waited.... we watched her go by our table without even a glance in our direction. We watched as she served other tables and then chewed the fat with some biker boys across the room. When she finally got to us, she said, "Here I am. Boy, are you lucky!" Mom asked her what she meant by that. "I'm just saying we're pretty busy so you're lucky I got to you." Mom's eyes narrowed. "I'm LUCKY you got to me?? Your job is to get to me! I watched you stand over there and yap while we sat here ready to order. We never even got a 'I'll be right with you.' I'm NOT lucky you got to me! C'mon, Heather. We're leaving!" The waitress stood there stunned. As we walked out, she whispered to me that she had just been joking. I just shrugged and followed Mom out.

So! There's my waitress horror stories. There's plenty more but I'll keep it down to those! But seriously, tomorrow's post - DEFINITELY worth checking out!! You'll all get a kick out it, I swear!!
